ISLAMABAD: The federal ombudsman has disposed of around 248,984 complaints filed against federal government departments in three years from January 2013 to July this year. “There is no backlog of pending cases with the Federal Ombudsman secretariat, a statement quoting senior Adviser to Federal Ombudsman Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmad Khokhar said on Sunday. Khokhar, who is also law and grievance commissioner for overseas Pakistanis, said public complaints were being decided in a period of 60 days but from January 2015 the time limit had been curtailed to 45 days as per instructions of Federal Ombudsman M Salman Faruqui. He said that the federal ombudsman had ‘Swift Complaint Resolution (SCR) System’, to resolve public complaints in 15 days at district and sub-divisions level. Currently, 36 districts and 90 sub-divisions of Pakistan are being covered under this initiative and now it is being extended to all 450 districts and sub-divisions of the country, he said. The ombudsman, he said, released number of people, with the help of donors, during holy fasting month of Ramazan and paid their fine, imposed on them, amounting to Rs 7.7 million. He said gift items (Cloths and toys) were distributed amongst 3,096 inmates including women, juvenile and children. A day care centre at Kot Lakhpat Jail was also established for children living with their mothers. Efforts are afoot to establish libraries and vocational training institutes at jails with the coordination of universities, he added. He added that one-window facilitation desks had been established at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad airports for resolution of complaints of overseas Pakistanis. More than 12,000 complaints have been addressed by the desks since their establishment at the airports. The office of the ombudsman had resolved a number of systematic issues related to the Foreign Office, Passport and the NADRA, he said, adding that Overseas Ministry and other department had been advised to celebrate a day every year to recognise services of overseas Pakistanis. Giving details about achievement of the Federal Ombudsman secretariat, he said the ombudsman had advised all federal government departments to finalise pension cases before six months. Pensioner facilitation room were established in the Establishment Division for pensioners’ facilitation and instructions had been issued to establish such rooms in every government department for facilitation of pensioners. Instructions have been issued to all federal government departments to timely complete ACR of their respective civil servants, the adviser said.
