ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of the case regarding the construction of Dasu Dam till Thursday. The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Qazi Faez Isa heard the case filed by China Power Construction Company. During the course of proceedings, counsel for the China Power Construction Company Advocate Salman Aslam Butt said his client’s company was an international reputed company and it had constructed three gorges dam and other hydro power projects. He said that his client’s company and two other companies were pre-qualified for the construction of Dasu Dam. After pre-qualification the project was referred to the World Bank for approval, he added. He said that the World Bank dropped his client’s company from participating in the tender process, which was totally illegal and unconstitutional. The World Bank was working in Pakistan and it should follow laws of the land and it had no authority to stop any company from participating in the tender process, he added. He said that total estimated cost of Dasu Dam was $37.8 million and the World Bank would only finance 10 per cent of it. On which the chief justice enquired that whether the World Bank got veto power after financing 10 per cent of the construction cost. Counsel for WAPDA Advocate Shahzada Mazhar told the court that China Power Construction Company was asked to submit a reply over objections in four weeks, but it filed a civil appeal in Lahore High Court, which was dismissed. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned.
