ISLAMABAD: A new corruption scandal worth over Rs 28 million has been revealed in Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). According to report tabled in the parliamentary committee, SSGC former MD Arshad Lone has imported steel pipe worth $ 3.8 million from China through Lahore-based Rana Trading Company. Sources said, “The administration of the SSGC has paid Rs 58 million to shipping company which were approximately Rs 16 million than actual rent. Similarly, former MD had imported some 80,800 metre long pipe from Britain and paid approximately Rs 13 million extra in the head of rent to trading company”. The parliamentary committee has directed the SSGC to recover Rs 29 million from shipping company after disclosure of corruption and stern action to be taken against the responsible officials. The SSGC has paid Rs 4 million extra to shipping company for the import of goods from US and these extra payments were made to same shipping company. The report reveals that corrupt administration of SSGC has received Rs 4 million less from the owner of Sindhu CNG despite guilty of gas theft and tempering of gas metre while the owner of Hassan Board Industries was given the unfair financial benefit of Rs 21 million. The owner of Hassan Board Industries had committed the gas theft and connected his gas supply to direct line. The SSGC’s Islamabad general manager had signed an agreement to purchase pipe from SASHI Steel Pipe Works and despite payment of Rs 18 million the company did not provide the pipe. The committee has also directed the SSGC administration to recover this amount. The report said that the corrupt officials of SSGC did not take back the guarantee money worth Rs 50 million from Data Steel Pipe Line and provided unjust financial benefit to the owner of the company. Similarly, the recovery of amount worth of Rs 83 million has not been made from Indus Steel Pipe for the last ten years and benefited the company illegally.
