ISLAMABAD: A joint demonstration was staged by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) outside the National Press Club on Friday against attacks on journalists in Faisalabad, Islamabad and Quetta. The protesters urged the government to register an FIR against the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad vice-chancellor. A large of journalists from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, their families and children participated in the protest. Pakistan People’s Party Secretary Information Mustafa Nawaz Khokar also attended the protest. The protesters gave the government 24 hours for taking action against those responsible for attacking journalists belonging to Samaa TV, OneTV, ARY News, Dunya TV, and Channel 24. Otherwise, they threatened to stage a protest demonstration in front of the Parliament House, Prime Minister’s House and Prime Minister’s Secretariat. The protesters were carrying banners and posters inscribed with slogans against the University of Agriculture Faisalabad VC. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists President Afzal Butt said that the rulers had been given a deadline for 24 hours for registering the FIR. “Otherwise, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists will march towards the Prime Minister’s House,” he said.
