ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration on Friday imposed a ban on all political and religious activities by Lal Masjid’s Shuhada Foundation, declaring it an “unregistered entity”. The Islamabad deputy commissioner (DC) had received an application for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Shuhada Foundation for holding a ceremony in remembrance of the ‘martyrs’ who died in the military crackdown on Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa on July 7, 2007. Responding to the request, the DC office issued a notification, rejecting the application as well as disallowing the foundation from conducting any political or religious activity as it was not registered with any state entity. The notification, signed by an additional district magistrate, has warned the foundation against violating the order, which could lead to “strict legal action”. Lal Masjid is registered with Auqaf Department and is, therefore, allowed only worship-related activities, the notification stated. Rejecting the notification, the Shuhada Foundation said that it will go ahead with the event as planned, insisting that the foundation was a registered entity. It also accused the government of “deceiving the public” on the matter. It, however, did not provide any details about which state entity it was registered with. The foundation has also called a meeting after Eidul Fitr to determine a plan of action following the ban on its activities. It has claimed that it is being “victimised”, since all other religious and political parties were allowed to hold such events. “Only we are being prohibited from doing so,” it said. Copies of the administration’s notification have been forwarded to Islamabad Police and the personal secretary to the interior minister. Annual commemorative events have been organised by the Shuhada Foundation in the past. However, it has not been allowed to hold these events ever since the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government came to power in 2013. Traffic warden: A case has been registered against three men for beating up a traffic warden in Pir Wadhai Police precinct. Earlier, in-charge Traffic Warden Nasir Mahmood lodged a complaint with police, stating that he had asked a car driver (ID-0304) not to park alongside a road. “Lal Mohammad, Waqas and Abid Khan, who were sitting in the car, attacked me and started beating me up. They also tore off my uniform,” he said. Police have registered a case and started an investigation. Traders: The Rawalpindi Police on Friday registered cases against five traders for allegedly not taking precautionary security measures in their shops in Gunj Mandi, Pir Wadhai and Waris Khan areas. Gunj Mandi Police registered cases against shoe shop owner Siraj Fazal and a beef shop owner Muhammad Adnan for not taking the required security measures. Meanwhile, Pir Wadhai Police registered cases against Sitara Cloth House owner Muhammad Faisal for not taking required security measures. Waris Khan Police registered cases against Medicare Chemist owner Usman and medical store owner Umar for not taking the required security measures. Adiala Jail: An Adiala Jail inmate died at PIMS Hospital on Friday. According to details, the inmate was serving time in a drug case. He was taken to PIMS Hospital after falling sick, where he died on Friday. The deceased belonged to Gujranwala. The body will be handed over to his family after an autopsy.
