ISLAMABAD: The matter of sales tax refund drew traders’ ire once again as cheques were distributed to 14 businessmen only in a ceremony on Tuesday in which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the chief guest. In the ceremony, some 500 traders were invited and all traders were hoping that the prime minister would distribute cheques worth Rs 260 billion in the head of sales tax refund, but cheques were allegedly distributed on the basis of personal liking and disliking. Traders were initially informed that all of them would receive cheques; however, only blue-eyed were given the cheques, added sources. Traders were of the view that the government was continuously cheating them and added that the business community was running from pillar to post since 2013 but of no avail. “The prime minister in his speech just appreciated the development projects launched by the PML-N government and did not address the main issue,” they added.
