ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has accepted a plea on not allowing women voters to cast their votes in KP 95 Lower Dir during by-elections. A three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case on Friday. During the hearing, lawyer of Election Commission of Pakistan took stance that keeping women away from casting their vote is against constitution and electoral system. The election commission had ordered to conduct re-elections in the constituency but Peshawar High Court had nullified the orders while the court do not possess any power to nullify the election commission’s decision. Upon which Justice Saqib Nisar asked the lawyer of election commission if women would not come out of their homes to cast their vote then what could anybody do. The court issued notice to Jamaat Islami’s (JI) winning candidate Aizazul Mulk and adjourned the proceedings till infinite period.
