ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has imposed fine on 1,380 shopkeepers amounting to Rs 895,300 and arrested 30 persons over profiteering in the federal capital during June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2015. Official sources in ICT administration said that the assistant commissioners (ACs) and magistrates are empowered to raid under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977 to control and check prices. They said ACs and magistrates are deputed to ensure implementation of the prices fixed by the market committee and deputy commissioner Islamabad. They said ACs and magistrates are also authorised to take food inspector, health inspector and livestock officials along for technical assistance during the raids. “They visit adjacent areas regularly and submit daily reports,” they added.
