ISLAMABAD: The first-ever elected mayor of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) and his deputies still waiting for empowerment to formally start their work of providing basic facilities to the residents of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). The elections for mayor and three deputy mayors were held two months back. Capital’s Mayor Shaikh Ansar Aziz took oath on March 4th and assumed his office at the old Naval Complex in sector G6. The offices of Capital development Authority (CDA) Directorate of Engineering were vacated and renovated for ICT’s newly elected representatives and their staff. According to a CDA official, services of at least 70 percent employees of the Capital Development Authority, around 11,000 would be put at the disposal of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation in next three to four months. Similarly, most of the building of CDA would also be handed over to the IMC, he added. The official said that out of total 55 CDA directorates, 28 including sports and culture, civic management, water and sewerage, zoo and wildlife, water supply, DMA, E&DM, Rescue 1122, operation of Simly Dam, markets and road maintenance, revenue, environment wing and others would eventually be devolved to the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation.
