ISLAMABAD: Bodybuilding centers across the country are pouring venom into youngsters’ veins by giving them prohibited drugs to build muscles. This ugly practice claimed four lives in different cities including Lahore while around 50 youngsters have become disabled in twin cities: Rawalpindi and Islamabad. A source told Daily Times Wednesday that around 150 bodybuilding centers set up in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were injecting banned steroids to their students desirous to build their muscles. “This has resulted in many youngsters lose their eyesight while others suffered heart attack, paralysis, kidney failure and bone disorders.” An instructor of a bodybuilding club, on the condition of anonymity, said that there were thousands unregistered bodybuilding clubs across the country and some of them were keeping banned steroids and food supplement. “In different areas of twin cities including Commercial Market, Moti Mehal, Jinnah Super these banned steroids are easily available. And these so called gym instructors are selling and recommending these steroids which are ruining the lives of young persons,” he added. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) spokesman Doctor Wasim Khawaja said that the government must take stern action over illegal sale of banned drugs and direction may be issued to medical stores for not keeping the banned drugs at their shops.
