ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani on Tuesday suggested Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi not to hold meeting with US Vice-President Mike Pence if President Donald Trump has no time to meet him, adding that the US approach towards Pakistan is ‘degrading’. Taking strong note of media reports that no meeting between Abbasi and Trump was scheduled on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session and Trump had instead asked his vice-president to meet the Pakistani premier, Rabbani said Pakistan was playing a leading role in the war against terrorism in the region which should be duly acknowledged. He said Pakistan had rendered great sacrifices in the war on terror. “Pakistan is playing a leading role in countering terrorism in the region. All supplies for US troops in Afghanistan go through Pakistan’s air and land routes … and US president has no time meet our prime minister,” Rabbani lamented. Rabbani also sought response from government over display of anti-Pakistan posters in Switzerland. “Interior minister should coordinate with the Foreign Office to record its statement on floor of the house regarding anti-Pakistan posters displayed in Switzerland,” he said. Over a call attention notice regarding fire in Awami Markaz, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the record of CPEC was safe in the Planning Ministry. He said no crucial record was burnt in the fire. To a point of public importance, he said the PM, the NSC and the army chief were aware of threats to Pakistan. Published in Daily Times, September 20th 2017.
