ISLAMABAD: Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s 19 demands.Nawaz praised the cleric’s role for political harmony, stability and reconciliation. Later, talking to reporters, the cleric said he apprised the PM about his Tuesday’s meeting with the MQM leadership in Karachi. He also said the next round of talks with the MQM leaders regarding their resignations would be held in Islamabad in a few days. To a question, the cleric said delay in talks occurred due to the attack on MQM lawmaker Rasheed Godail. He said both the government and MQM have positive approach to resolve the issue. He said the Karachi operation is not against the MQM. Separately, Nawaz telephoned Naufel Godil to inquire about the health of Rasheed Godil. The PM prayed for his early recovery.On Tuesday, four attackers on motorcycles opened fire on his car in Bahadurabad, critically injuring him and killing his driver.Police said bullet casings taken from the scene matched a 9mm pistol, adding that CCTV footage was being examined. A panel of doctors will decide whether to take him off the ventilator, Liaqat National Hospital spokesman Anjum Rizvi told reporters.
