ISLAMABAD: The meeting of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has been adjourned after a strong protest by the opposition over allocation of a piece of land for the establishment of a nursing university in Islamabad. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had identified 237 kanals for the construction of King Hamad University of Nursing and Allied Medical Science in Chatta Bakhtawar and Mouja village across Park Road and had issued an allotment letter to the financiers – the Government of Bahrain – in 2015. But, the situation goes adverse at the time of the inauguration of this project in last week when it was revealed upon the management that the authority doesn’t have the complete possession of said chunk of land. The CDA had acquired this land in 1981, but failed to obtain possession from locals so far. When the meeting of MCI began, after covering routine agenda, the opposition highlighted aforementioned issue and criticised on State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and his cousin the deputy mayor of MCI Chaudhry Riffat. Opposition members blamed that the said allocation was taken place on the directions of minister and his cousin while the rights of real owners are on stake and government wants to grab the land from their owners without giving them proper compensation. The opposition members while declaring the whole move a conspiracy has chanted slogans; “Qabza Mafia Na-Manzor” while a strong retaliation was also came from government side, who linked this protest with PTI’s leader Imran Khan in a bigger picture. Mayor Shaikh Ansar Aziz adjourned the meeting when situation went out of his control.
