ISLAMABAD: Due to the wrong policies of the traffic police, the rush of public transport at the main gates of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) and U-turns at wrong points, it has become very difficult for the patients to reach the hospital well in time, especially in emergency. The management of the hospital, the CDA and the Islamabad Traffic Police are sitting idle over the situation. An U-turn is situated just in front of the emergency gate of the PIMS, which has become the cause of several accidents daily and causes mess of the traffic. By virtue of long queues of cabs and other public transport, the ambulances do not find a way to enter the hospital’s gate. There is a van stand outside the gate of the Mother and Child Healthcare Unit of the hospital and the public service transport drivers park their vehicles in the middle of the road outside the gate, which prevents the entrance to the PIMS. When the Administrator of the hospital Dr Altaf, was contacted, he said though the U-Turn created hurdles for the patients and their attendants but he would talk to the management of the civic body and the traffic police in this regard. When the Member Engineering of CDA, Asad Kayani, was asked he said that he did not know about the U-Turn outside the gate of the hospital, however the CDA will close it down to save the patients from facing the problem.
