ISLAMABAD: Food adulterators are enemies of society, so a comprehensive and sustained campaign is required to defeat these anti-social criminal elements, said Islamabad Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz. Expressing his views while chairing a monthly review meeting of the Directorate of Health Services on Wednesday, he said that food adulterators play with the lives of people, so “we need a proactive approach against them”. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had a vision for healthy Pakistan. “Under his guidance, the MCI is proceeding against food adulterators. Steps against food adulterators should be made more effective, fruitful and result-oriented,” Sheikh Anser Aziz said. The meeting was informed that specially constituted teams of Health Services Directorate were conducting raids across the city to ensure provision of quality edible items as per required health standards during the month. The meeting was also informed that during the month of May, these teams challaned 67 people and issued 88 notices to violators of hygiene under different sections of the PPF Ordinance 1960. Moreover, substandard ketchup, 258 utensils (cracked, chipped, and broken) were also confiscated and destroyed there, while 29 food samples from different food outlets were also collected and sent to laboratory for further examination. The Islamabad mayor also directed the Directorate of Health Services to continue operation against substandard and adulterated food sellers. He further directed the authorities to ensure the implementation of relevant rules and strict action against substandard, unhygienic and adulterated food sellers. He told them to submit daily progress report in this regard Senior officers of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) also attended the meeting.
