RAWALPINDI: Water crisis has reached alarming proportion in the areas of Cantt due to reduction in water supply from Khanpur Dam. Sources said that cantt areas are facing water shortage of 16 million gallons for want of proper strategy. The cantonment board officers who are appointed therein since the last one and a half year have failed to ensure increase of a single gallon water for the residents of cantt areas. Illegal water connections were severed. Decision has been taken to construct water tank at the cost of Rs 20 million out of MNA grant to store 30 million gallon water. Due to dip in water supply from Khanpur dam nine million gallon water is being supplied in the areas of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board while seven million gallon is further needed to meet the requirement. In the areas of Chaklala cantt only two million gallon water is being supplied and more 7 million gallon water is required. Secretary Cantt Board Qaisar Mehmood claimed that water issue has been solved in respect of Khanpur dam and water will be supplied to citizens on regular basis to the citizens as per routine.
