ISLAMABAD: The ministry of Housing and Works has planned to launch a mega housing project under which 1,200 flats will be constructed on an area of 140 kanals of government land in the federal capital. These flats will be constructed in place of 90 outdated and 55-year old houses at Sector F-6, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani said. He said that a summary of the project had been sent to the prime minister for approval after which the development work would be started. He added the project could be completed within two years. He said that it was proposed that the ministry will sale 30 per cent of the total construction while the remaining flats would remain with the government. He also said that a land had been given to the Capital Administration and Development Division at Sector G-13 to build a public school for residents while a sufficient amount had been given to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for development work in the sector. He said under the Green Enclave Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme the total plots as per the layout plan of the housing scheme were 3244, but after a survey conducted by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation through NESPAK, 775 plots were found to be located on deep ravines where it was impossible to develop anything. He added that after the cancellation of deep plots from the layout plan, the private company was responsible for provision of land and development under the court order. He said that the NESPAK had completed its survey and ratified the project as per rules. The CDA will finally give its permission to start development work there. Akram Durrani said the government was committed to take appropriate action in order to promote, protect and ensure proper realisation of provision of adequate housing for its citizens. He said the ministry had taken very strong decisions during the present tenure keeping in view the continuously deteriorating situation of the housing sector in the country due to non-implementation of policies during past governments. He said that the government would review various measures and policies formulated in the past in order to come up with such policy measures which are pragmatic and implementable for the housing sector. The emphasis of the government would be to focus on the fundamental requirements of creating a favourable and conducive environment in the country, and to promote and facilitate the housing sector, he added.
