ISLAMABAD: Capital’s new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khalid Khan Khattak said that improvement in law and order situation, protection of lives and properties of the public, timely justice and fight against crimes are our top priorities. While assuming the charge of IGP Islamabad, he stated that a comprehensive strategy would be put into practice to accomplish these priorities. In order to control crime in the federal capital and to ensure law and order situation, a close liaison between police and the public would be ensured. The IGP said that the police would tighten its hold around hardened criminals. He also said that citizens would be given direct access to the officers so that their grievances could be addressed. The field officers would be activated to nab criminals involved in dacoitees, robberies, street crimes and other crimes of heinous nature. The IGP further said that an effective strategy is vital to reduce crime and also ordered to adopt professional as well as responsible attitude to mitigate the sufferings of the people. Khalid Khan Khattak directed to focus on resolving the public complaints and to take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens. He directed all officers to provide maximum relief to citizens and not to delay registration of FIRs. He said police officials responsible in delaying registration of cases and doing sluggish investigation would not be spared at any cost and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them. The IGP said that he will not tolerate corruption and would purge police officials from the force involved in corrupt practices. He also directed all the police officials performing duties at police stations to improve their performance and address the grievances of the masses on immediate basis following merit to win the confidence and support of the people. He stressed for speedy disposal of cases, investigation purely on merit and earliest arrest of criminals involved in various crime cases. He also emphasised the need to adopt zero tolerance against petty crime. He also directed to ensure crackdown against absconders. Khalid Khan Khattak further said that transparency and merit would be ensured in the police department. Professional and honest officers would be rewarded for their achievements while officers found involved in malpractice would be taken to task, he added. Meanwhile, two persons were arrested for threatening police personnel in the jurisdiction of Bhara Kahu Police Station. Police personnel intercepted a car at Murree road. The two passengers inside the car threatened the police personnel. Both the persons identified as Ghulam Rabbani and Tahir Alvi were arrested and shifted to police station. Police have also registered a case against them and started investigation.
