RAWALPINDI: The residents of Saddar and Railway Station Road protested against delay in opening of college in the area that was constructed 12 years back. A large number of residents along with students holding placards inscribed with slogans in favor of their demands urged local administration to take steps for starting classes at the college in the area. The protestors said that ex-MNA Malik Shakeel Awan had changed the nameplate of college three years back, still, the college classes have not started yet. Millions of rupees were spent for the construction of this school 12 years back. The building has become a shelter for drug addicts and stray dogs. The residents said they are facing severe problems is sending their children to other colleges that are located far away. They added they have to bear extra charges of transport fare. The residents said that the main reason behind all this was political rift among the politicians of the area. One of the resident that AML Chief Sheikh Rasheed backed the construction of this college to facilitate the local population. The protestors have demanded the government to look into matter for starting classes soon as possible. The residents have also urged local MPA and MNA to brush-aside their differences and take urgent initiatives for opening of the college. It is pertinent to mention here that the relevant college was constructed during the previous era of current MNA, Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, after which he lost his seat to PML (N) candidate in 2008, however, he again got elected in general election 2013.
