ISLAMABAD: While reception of no help from the cabinet ministers, the CDA and city administration the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has sought help from NAB, for evacuation of land grabbed by various influential personalities, Daily Times has learnt. According to a letter written by Vice Chancellor (VC) Javed Ashraf to Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, the VC has explained him the all figures of the varsity land encroached by various grabbers. Interestingly except a news report published in an English daily, the VC did not mentioned the name of grabber throughout in the letter. However, according to the record available with this correspondent, 50 acres piece of land is allegedly encroached by former Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari. On the occupied land, former chairman has built his residence and a large playing ground lies vacant on the front side of the boundary wall of his luxury house. On October 30 of this year, Bukhari extended the said encroachment. He chopped down the trees were situated in the varsity’s land and make plain to the land for some sort of construction for himself. The information available suggested that Bukhari constructed around a 3 km long new private road and plan plots on fresh encroached land of the varsity. The documents revealed that at the time of its establishment in 1967, QAU had been acquired 1,709 acres of land by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The varsity had paid CDA for this piece of land. While currently a large portion of land is under occupation. For the purpose to measure the existed land under the varsity ownership, The university in 2006 had requested the Survey of Pakistan (SOP) Rawalpindi for an exact measurement of the university land. The SOP is the body to deal with map sheets and mapping land related matters demanded from various government/ semi-government and autonomous bodies. The area worked out inside the boundary line showed that the provided layout plan was 1507 acres”, reads a letter signed by Noor Elahi, Deputy Director Training and Research, for the SOP Pakistan. Rest 286 acres land is encroached upon by the locals and some influential politicians were residing on the varsity land. Some villagers had encroached upon the land inside the drawn boundary line by the CDA which according to the sources, the existed land was already not fulfilling the size for which the varsity paid the money. Earlier, several requests had been made by university administration to the federal ministries, CDA and district administration as well as the capital police for evacuation of varsity owned land but still in vain.
