ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner in Pakistan Thomas Drew has said investment on education was the way forward for growth and prosperity of Pakistan. Addressing the first-ever alumni reception of the University of London International Programmes here at a local hotel, the high commissioner said the British government was cooperating with Pakistan in the promotion of quality education through British Council and University of London International Programmes. University of London International Programmes Pro-Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Dr Mary Stiasny highlighted the achievements of Pakistani students in the international programmes. She said Pakistan being the sixth largest market for University of London has more than 3,000 students and has produced more than 2,000 graduates, most of them renowned lawyers and social sciences alumnus. Head of Undergraduate Laws Simon Askey talked high of law students in Pakistan and appreciated three students who secured the first class distinction in the whole course. A total of seven students around the world secured a first class distinction in the laws course and three of them belonged to Pakistan. Head of Alumni Engagement Lisa Pierre was hopeful for more outreach of University of London in Pakistan. University of London International Programmes Country Head Saad Wasim thanked the alumni for taking out time to attend the inaugural reception. The delegation of the University of London also met with education minister, chief justice of Pakistan, Higher Education Commission chairman, special assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs and senior officials at the Planning Commission of Pakistan during their visit. The reception was followed by a performance by rock star Ali Azmat.
