KARACHI: State Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb on Sunday pressed Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to implement his four-point charter in Sindh. Addressing at the Karachi Press Club, she said Bilawal is new in politics and he could meet the prime minister for the implementation of his points. About Bilawal’s claim to become the PM in 2018, she said the PM would be the person who has brought down load shedding from 18 hours to three hours, inflation to historical lowest level, installed energy projects and started China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. She said legislation was being made to ensure security and safety of journalists. “First draft of Security and Safety Bill has been made and soon will be shared with all media outlets for their inputs. With mutual understanding the bill will be forwarded to parliament for legislation,” she assured. She said journalists were facing security threats for the last many years due to lack of legal cover. “Apart from few media outlets, working journalists were not provided with the insurance coverage, although equipment is insured but the persons are not,” Maryam Aurangzeb noted. She also stressed for the activation of “editorial committees” of media organisations, print and electronic, so that code of conduct could be implemented in its true spirit. “Some channels doing nothing except defamation of prime minister from 7 to 12 pm daily,” she lamented. Maryam added, “A line of responsibility would have to be drawn.” About implementation of National Action Plan (NAP), she said that due to NAP peace has been restored in Karachi and the incidents of terrorism have come down. To a question about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, she said Imran Khan is in fact in the government. His party is ruling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and he has time to do what Nawaz Sharif has done for provinces and the country, she added. “FATA reforms will soon be presented in parliament for legislation,” she responded.
