ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was on Tuesday granted a protective bail for one week by Islamabad High Court (IHC) in eight corruption-related cases, his legal counsel told reporters. The court ordered Gilani to submit bail bonds worth Rs 100,000 for each of the eight cases, and to appear before the trial courts within one week. However, Gilani’s lawyer Farooq H Naek told reporters outside the court that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had lodged another case against his client, and that he will have to approach the IHC once again to obtain an interim bail in that case as well. Talking to the media after the hearing, Gilani said he had been “saddened” by the new case lodges against him out of the blue. “I was very saddened by the fact that when I came to court today to get bail in some cases, I was still present in the court when a new case was filed against me,” Gilani said. “I will have to appear in the court again for another bail, but I am definite that if I get this bail also, we will still have to go for more bails,” he added. Last week, an anti-corruption court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Gilani and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Faheem.
