ISLAMABAD: The helpline Legal Advice on Human Rights Violations, which is working under the Ministry of Human Rights, has increased its timings from 8am to 12am and received 12,000 calls since its inception in May last year. Helpline Director Kashif Kamal said, “The helpline was available from 8am to 4pm, but now it has increased its timings to 12am midnight. The timings have been increased as a first step and our ultimate goal is to ensure this facility round the clock so that no one is deprived of speedy justice on his doorstep,” he said. He said the helpline provided legal aid to 1,000 people and responded to mails and emails to facilitate people in distress. “If people call the helpline after office timings, they are called back, as the system has record of their numbers, and provided maximum help,” he said. He said the helpline was a step towards safeguarding the human rights and providing justice to the masses.
