ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the government to appoint administrators in all federal hospitals till November 7. A three-member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing on Friday. The chief justice inquired how the major institutions were running without their heads. “What is the reason behind the failure of the government in appointing the heads? Why the culture of ad hocism is being promoted? Fundamental rights of the people are linked to health related departments. A cardiologist has been handed over administrative matters,” he observed. The chief justice inquired from Attorney General (AG) how much time was required for appointing heads on merit. The AG requested that two moths time be given for making appointments. Justice Amir Hani Muslim remarked people were dying in the hospitals and the government needed two months. “Is court’s interference essential in connection with appointment of administrators and executive directors in hospitals?” he asked. The court while directing the government to appoint administrators in the hospitals by November 7 adjourned hearing of case.
