Every once in a while, we see a beauty product and think, what is that? The latest contender is Hourglass’ curator lash instrument, which totally resembles something you would find in a museum and unscrews to reveal a stainless steel wand. If you’re confused by the lack of actual mascara anywhere in this product, it all becomes clear when you see the accompanying curator realist mascara and curator ascent primer. Basically, think of the lash instrument as the tool you dip into the pots of mascara and primer to coat your lashes. But… where’s the brush? You don’t even need one. Unlike regular mascaras, the Curator is bristle and brush-free, explains Hourglass founder Carisa Jane. It was created with high precision threading and a sleek stainless steel tip to give a full 360-degree range and evenly coat each lash from base to tip. “I’ve always wanted to tight line with mascara. The Curator lets me get as close as possible to the lash line, creating the darkest tight lining effect,” she says. We did extensive testing with various angles of the grooves and 40 degrees was optimal for reaching lashes you can’t usually reach with regular mascara. Now that’s geometry we can definitely get behind! Best of all, Carisa Jane reveals that, the stainless steel tool will basically last forever. You may already know that mascara should be thrown out every three to four months, but the separation of applicator and product in Hourglass’s invention allows you to keep the wand for years, while only tossing the tubes of primer and mascara when you’ve used them up. We recommend cleaning the Curator periodically with a soft cloth, using a twisting motion to remove product build up, advises Jane. You can use soap and water for a more thorough cleaning when required. Brace yourselves; your lashes are about to leap into the future in the most fluttery way.
