Is your dog just as smart as those that enter Crufts but likes the rough and tumble of the garden too much to stand still on a podium? If so, this competition could see your beloved pooch crowned best in show after a series of fun activities including dog with the waggiest tail. The Inner Temple Dog Show celebrates the bond between gardener and their pets with dogs of all shapes and sizes taking part in a series of competitions aimed to acknowledge even the most robust fluff balls. Pooches and owners in Sunday’s contest were scored for their garden agility in a light hearted race, the best floral outfit and dog with the waggiest tail even won a prize. There were also awards for the best junior handler and public’s favourite dog. Photos from the event held in Inner Temple Garden, one of the largest gardens in the City of London, show a sweet pug dressed as a sunflower, a dog named Jasper resting contentedly in a coat aligned with daisies and owners leading their best friends over the impromptu doggy assault course. Other photos show a dog posing for a selfie while staring curiously at the phone and an owner, some of whom were also decorated in flowers and funny costumes, clutching their exhausted looking pet. Although the contest had a light hearted feel the categories were judged by distinguished members of the legal and canine worlds and watched by an eager crowd. Inner Temple is more famous for being home to one of the UK’s four Inns of Court, a place of work for 1,800 barristers during the week. However it is now considered a safe haven for lawyers, the general public and wildlife between the busy Fleet Street and Embankment. The show is part of the Chelsea Fringe, the alternative garden festival.
