The first official Nutella restaurant is opening in Chicago at the end of this month. Nutella Cafe will be the first restaurant owned and operated by Ferrero, the makers of the beloved chocolate hazelnut spread, when it opens its doors on May 31. In addition to a long list of Nutella baked goods, breakfast items, and desserts, the eatery will also have a savoury dish menu for a full meal. There have been temporary Nutella pop-ups in the past – including one at Harvey Nichols that closed in January of this year – as well as spots that have silenced the Nutella name, like the Nutella Bar at New York City’s Italian food emporium Eataly. However, this is the first restaurant run by the company itself. “We wanted to create a world of Nutella for our fans that could truly capture the essence of the brand – not just in the dishes that will be served, but in the full experience from the moment you step into the space,” Nutella North America’s Head of Marketing Noah Szporn said in a press release. “The Nutella Cafe offers something for everybody, and we encourage everyone to come in and try a dish or snack. We hope Nutella enthusiasts, Chicagoans and visitors enjoy the cafe as much as we enjoyed creating it.” Naturally, it’s the sweets on the menu that are bound to get fans drooling. According to Eater, these include crepes, gelato, Nutella-filled croissants and baguettes, and oatmeal, yoghurt and fruit topped with Nutella. There will be muffins, pies, waffles, pancakes, and French toast, all stuffed or drizzled with the spread. There will even be Nutella fondue, as well as a few desserts without Nutella at all. As for savoury dishes, the menu lists paninis, soups and salads. What’s more, the first 400 visitors when the doors open at 10am on the last day of this month will get one free menu item and a chance to win prizes. Unsurprisingly, fans far and wide are already quite psyched about the opening, and have been expressing themselves on social media. “I’m there! #nutellacafe,” wrote one. Added another, “The only thing getting me through this month is the fact there’s a Nutella Cafe opening on Michigan Avenue on May 31st.”
