LAHORE: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) ordered on Tuesday that Dr Asim’s name be removed from exit control list (ECL) temporarily and has allowed him to travel abroad for medical treatment. The former petrolium minister faces multipe charges and has mutliple cases registered against him. He was refused permission to travel abroad by the Sindh High Court but the SC bench headed by Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, after reviewing his petition, decided to allow him to seek medical treatment abroad conditional to his return within one month and a surety of 6 million rupees. Dr Asim is a senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and is said to be a close friend of former president Asif Ali Zardari. The corruption references against him link him to corruption of 479 billion rupees through multiple schemes. SC also remarked over National Accountability Bureau’s performance regarding Dr Asim case and said that had NAB dedicated itself to resolving the case, the case would have been concluded by now.
