Einstein would sum up US strategy: ‘trying the same thing over & over again & expecting a different result is a sign of stupidity/insanity’! — Mushahid Hussain (@Mushahid) August 22, 2017 [removed][removed] Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan regarded the new policy as a failed strategy that has been tried and tested for over the last decade. So the US again blames Pak for its deeply flawed & failed Afghan policy stretching over a decade https://t.co/sGikXZb0ay — Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) August 22, 2017 [removed][removed] While a senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) suggested that it is about time other countries do more in the war against terrorism, noting the sacrifices Pakistan has made ever since the war started. I’m sorry, but others need to “do more ” in Afghanistan, not Pakistan. Guess we were ok as long as the supply lines were needed. Moving on — SenatorSherryRehman (@sherryrehman) August 22, 2017 [removed][removed] Trump announced a new Afghan strategy on Monday and vowed to win the war against terrorism. He said that his administration’s focus will be on winning the war rather than nation-building. His stance on Afghanistan is in direct contrast with that of his predecessor Barrack Obama. “We are not nation building again. We are killing terrorists,” Trump said. Trump refused to talk about the number of troops US would be sending in Afghanistan in the future and did not give a timeline for the war. He further said that Washington will not be involved in controlling the actions of the soldiers on the battlefield and will give their commanders the authority to make decisions according to the situation. Talking about Pakistan, he said that the US might cut off aid to Pakistan in order to force the country to help US win the war. Trump accused Pakistan of harbouring terrorists and accused Pakistan for being a safe haven for the enemies of US. In response to his statements on Pakistan, the spokeswoman of China’s foreign ministry, Hua Chunying said that Pakistan is one of the key players in the international war against terrorism and is one of the leading contributors in the global struggle to eradicate terrorism from the region. She said. “On President Trump’s remarks on Pakistan, I should say that Pakistan is at the frontline of fighting terrorism, has made sacrifices in fighting terrorism, making an important contribution to upholding peace and stability”. I think the international community should truly affirm” the efforts made by Pakistan in combating terrorism. “We are pleased to see US and Pakistan to conduct cooperation in anti-terrorism efforts on the basis of mutual respect and contribute to the global peace and stability,” Hua Chunying further added.
