LAHORE: Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) Chairperson Fauzia Viqar has said that proper filling of nikahnama (marriage deed) can help empower women.
Talking at the opening ceremony of trainers for nikah registrars and the Punjab Local Government Community Development officials at the Directorate of Staff Development here on Friday, she observed that appropriate filling of marriage deeds could empower women and protect their rights. The training session has been organised with the collaboration of the Local Government and Community Development Department to train nikah registrars as per the latest amended laws for ensuring maximum protection of women's rights. Fauzia Viqar said that the PCSW had set a target to train over 39,000 nikah registrars across Punjab. Meanwhile, Local Government Director Mian Hamza Wattoo mentioned that the department was fully committed to cooperating and coordinating with the PCSW in this regard. He expressed his hope that trainers would participate in the training programme with full devotion for the noble cause. More than 30 trainers will train union council chairpersons, secretaries and nikah registrars. PCSW Secretary Usman briefed the participants about the project. He said that the Monitoring Wing of the PCSW would carry out separate or combined monitoring of training programmes.
