Troops kill 15 Taliban in Swat

RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed at least 15 Taliban in various clashes in Swat on Monday.

One soldier was also killed in crossfire between the army and the Taliban.

“The security forces conducted a search operation in Allahabad near Chaharbagh. In an exchange of fire with the terrorists, five Taliban and one soldier was killed,” an ISPR statement said. The security forces killed seven more Taliban in a search operation in Maira. They also arrested 11 Taliban from the area. Another three Taliban were killed in an operation in Lundai Sarand. The forces conducted search operations in Gulkanda and Aman Kot and apprehended seven Taliban from the areas. In another search operation in Sangota and Ahingora Cham near Fatehpur, the army apprehended four Taliban.

The Taliban have vowed to avenge the army's recent offensive to retake the Swat valley and the death of TTP chief Baitullah Mehsud who was killed in a US drone strike near the Afghan border in early August. staff report
