‘Government won’t allow terrorists breathing space’
* Kaira praises people of Malakand for celebrating Independence Day
MINGORA: Federal and provincial information ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira and Mian Iftikhar Hussain said on Friday the government had crushed terrorism and would completely exterminate all those who had escaped and taken refuge in caves.
The ministers said the government would not give breathing space to militants and force them to come out of caves and hiding places and finish them off.
Kaira and Iftikhar expressed these views at Naveed-e-Sehar Show, an Independence Day programme held at Saidu Sharif hall.
The federal minister said the Pakistani nation was celebrating Independence Day with great enthusiasm. He said the nation rendered numerous sacrifices for freedom and would offer more to sustain it. Kaira said the PPP-led government was committed to making the country economically and socially strong.
Kaira praised the people of Malakand for coming out of their homes to celebrate the Independence Day. “I salute your courage. Your spirit is very high and with unity, we would defeat the elements that are against the progress, peace and stability of our beloved country,” said the federal information minister.
Iftikhar said terrorists killed innocent people in Swat, rendered them homeless and destroyed their homes, schools, hospitals and mosques. He said the government launched an operation against them and because of this crackdown, people were taking a sigh of relief.
The Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal in Mingora city and functions were held at various places. Youths were seen dancing on roads and shouted slogans of Pakistan zindabad and Pak army zindabad. The whole city was decorated. Army jawans and the police patrolled to prevent any unpleasant incident.
