Six Taliban killed, 17 held in Swat

* Troops recover cache of arms, ammunition

MINGORA/RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed at least six Taliban in fighting in Kabal and Barikot on Tuesday while a soldier was killed and another sustained injuries.

A police official told Daily Times that six Taliban had been killed and a solider was killed while another was injured. Sources said dead bodies of five Taliban had been recovered.

Three bodies were recovered from Manglor on the outskirts of Mingora, while two bodies were recovered from Landai Kas and Qazi Abad areas.

Separately, security forces on Tuesday revealed that they had arrested 17 terrorists in the on-going search and clearance operations in different parts of Swat.

“Security forces conducted search and clearance operation at Kalam and Bahrain and arrested four suspects,” ISPR said.

The forces arrested eight more terrorists in search operations in Bahadar Gaam, near Charbagh, where they also destroyed an underground tunnel. In another search operation in Peochar, two tunnels were discovered and destroyed in Rampatai area. Security personnel arrested two suspects during a search and clearance operation in Jambil near Saidu Sharif. They conducted search operations in Dahrah and Nagwa and demolished three hideouts of terrorists. The security forces also recovered 10 rifles, four small machineguns, two pistols, two grenades and one mine detector from the hideouts.

The security forces also carried out search operations in Dagai, Garoh and Kotali areas, apprehending three terrorists and recovered five rifles, one pistol, one IED and a huge cache of ammunition.

Also, security forces arranged a free medical camp in the Kanju High School and provided free medicines and check-ups to around 1,200 women and children.
