All 5 judges of Balochistan High Court resign
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: All five judges of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) including its chief justice have resigned from office and requested the president to grant them premature retirement, a private TV reported on Tuesday.
According to the channel, BHC Acting Registrar Atiqur Rehman told journalists in Quetta that BHC CJ Amanullah Yasin Zai along with Justice Ahmad Khan Lashari, Justice Akhtar Zaman Malgani, Justice Mehta Kelash Nath and Justice Nadir Khan had sent their resignations to President Asif Ali Zardari.
After the Supreme Court verdict declaring the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) 2007 illegal and unconstitutional, these judges had been suspended from duty until the Supreme Judicial Council made a decision on their eligibility to continue as BHC judges. After the resignations, no judge is available in the BHC to hear cases. It is expected that the president would soon make fresh appointments in the high court on the advice of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the recommendations of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
