Power tariff likely to go up by 10 percent

LAHORE: The government has decided to increase the electricity tariff in the upcoming financial budget at least 10 percent, a private TV channel reported on Friday. Talking to the channel, a federal water and power ministry spokesman said the cost of electricity to the government was Rs 8.37 per unit, while the customers were being charged on average Rs 5.60 per unit. “The subsidy on power given to the people during the current fiscal year amounted to Rs 120 billion and power tariffs would be enhanced by at least 10 percent in the upcoming budget to save the power sector from further loss,” he added. daily times monitor
