Gadap Town to be named after BB?

KARACHI: The Gadap Town Council adopted a unanimous resolution Thursday to change the town’s name to Quaid-e-Jamhoriat Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Town. The resolution will be forwarded to the provincial caretaker cabinet soon.

The session was presided over by Convenor Abdul Sattar Brohi while Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch TMO Nafees Sheikh had also participated.

The town council also condemned the Bhutto’s killing and demanded that the government find her killers as per the demand of the people and members of the PPP.

Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch vowed to continue the mission of slain PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto as he felt that she was a symbol of unity among the provinces. “She was an ambassador of democracy in Pakistan for the world and her assassins were enemies of the country.” Baloch also said that they will hold a fateha on Bhutto’s Chehlum.

Malir Town Council in a session held Thursday adopted a resolution to hand over the town’s solid waste management to the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).

The session was presided over by Senior Presiding Officer Muhammad Laiq, and TMO Khursheed Ali, and other town officials were also present.

The resolution was moved by Nasir Abbas and said that according to Section 1(54) of Sindh Local Governance Ordinance (SLGO) 2001, it was the sole responsibility of the town administration to maintain cleanliness

“In other cities of the world, solid waste management is controlled by a single department and it has been successful. Now in Karachi it should also be under one department. The city government had signed an agreement with a Chinese firm, Shanghai Shen Gong Environmental Protection Company, for the city and removal of the huge amount of waste on a regular basis,” said Abbas.

He said that the sanitary staff as well as all machinery would be handed over to the city government as they have approved the resolution.

North Nazimabad Town Nazim Mumtaz Hameed has said many development projects in the town have been initiated to facilitate the masses.

During the visit of Mustafabad in UC 7, he along with other officials reviewed the 18-inch diameter sewerage line project being completed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.6 million.

He said that after the completion of this project, the surrounding localities as well as residents of Blocks P, Q, S and T would benefit.

The Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town has started work on the Rs 27.9 million-road from Ziaul Haq Colony to Rashid Minhas Road in UC5, which will be completed within the next two months.

Gulshan Town Nazim Wasay Jalil visited the site along with the TMO and other officials and directed the relevant officials concerned to accelerate the pace of work to shift electric poles and underground utility services immediately.
