Akhter Mengal detained

Staff Report

KARACHI: Sardar Akhter Mengal, president of the Balochistan National Party, and former MNA Rauf Mengal were put under house arrest in Sakuran near Hub Chowki in Lasbela district on Tuesday.

“We received an order from the Balochistan Home Department that we cannot move from our house,” Akhter Mengal told Daily Times over the phone. Mengal recently organised a big public rally in Hub to mobilise support for a long march from Gwadar to Quetta to protest against military operations in Balochistan.

Mengal insisted that the rally would go ahead. Police detained some 50 people in total ahead of the planned anti-government march, officials told AFP.
