KARACHI: The leading buyers made deals for better and second grade of lint on slightly higher prices while shrinking better grades put price in green in lint market during the trading session fibre dealers said. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate stayed firm at Rs 6,750 per maund with moderate volumes, while buyers made deals with ginners of Sindh and Punjab on competitive price. Floor brokers said spinners in Sindh and Punjab remained engaged in price war with the buyers on better grades of lint besides growing demand of the produce kept market sentiments positive despite shrinking domestic stocks. The ginners of Punjab and Sindh offered lots around Rs 6,525 per maund to Rs 6,775 per maund to the buyers, while Sindh ginners offered their raw produce on competitive prices at Rs 5,975 per maund, depending on trash level. The quality lint of Punjab fetched above Rs 6,800 per maund. A senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani said market sentiments remained positive, while ginners withholding better grades were confident that the physical prices would go further up in coming days. However, with higher inflation looming, cotton prices should continue to move higher over the longer term on domestic and international front. Leading buyers also made forward deals for a month period above Rs 6,375 per maund. In the domestic market 200 bales of Mirpurkhas changed hands at Rs 6,375 per maund, 200 bales of Rahimyar Khan at Rs 6,650 per maund and 200 bales of southern Punjab at Rs 6,575 per maund. Last night in New York Futures market, July 2017 contract closed at 76.14 cents per pound, while July 2017 closed at 77 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index settled at 86 cents per pound.
