Karachi: A high level meeting presided over by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashidi was held during the minister’s visit to the Employee’s Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI). He was welcomed by EOBI Chairman Khaqan Murtaza, who gave him a detailed briefing regarding the institutions activities, performance and future projects. In the briefing, the Chairman informed Rashidi that the EOBI had successfully moved 0.4 million pensioners from a manual system to a digital system via Bank Al Falah ATM cards. Rashidi directed the Chairman to approach State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Tariq Bajwa for the purpose of connecting the Al Falah ATM cards to the 1-link system so that the pensioners could access their pensions with more efficiency and without the present deduction of Rs. 17 if they choose to access their pensions from a bank other than Bank Al Falah. The chairman also informed the minister that the EOBI had established a computerised national identity card (CNIC) -based data system for insured persons throughout Pakistan so that if they changed their place of employment their contribution could be placed in their CNIC-based account accordingly.
