KARACHI: Lint trading remained better-grade focused with steady physical prices while deals for second grade lint on high side, traders said. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate stayed under correction on technical grounds during the past week, floor brokers said. The economic activities remained moderate due to demand for all grades of lint while ginners sped up their ginning activities in anticipating of future demands for all grades of lint on slow influx of cottonseed in the near future, floor brokers said. The KCA spot rate stood at Rs 6,650 per maund, they added. Cottonseed prices in Sindh stood around at Rs 3,350 per maund and Rs 3,375 per maund while in Punjab rates stayed at Rs 3,550 and Rs 3,575 per maund. In the ready business past week, more than 18,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5,975 and Rs 6,700 per maund, floor brokers said. According to the lint analyst Shakeel Ahmad the mills and spinners consolidated their long positions by making deals for better grades on less crop arrival in current crop season. However during past trading week, better grades demand combined with second grade stuff for blending purposes kept physical prices in firm frame. Buyers at major stations of Punjab and Sindh remained busy buying fine grades as demand of better grades was growing on back of producing better textile products while potential buyers made deals for all grades in order to fortify their inventories before shrinking fine grade lint, they added. During trading activities sellers demanded slightly higher prices for better grades at around Rs 6,725 per maund, traders said.
