ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s food exports are progressing well in the global food market compared with the overall share of Pakistani exports in the global trade. According to an official source, Pakistan’s share in the global food market currently stands at 0.22% which is better than Pakistan’s share in overall global trade which is 0.14%.” The source also revealed that the in terms of revenue, global food export in 2014 was US$ 1486 billion whereas the Pakistan’s exports of food items in 2015-16 stood at US$3.4 billion. The source further added that food exports from the country could be improved further if proper attention is given to resolve issues faced by the food market sector. It is pertinent to mention that food market in Pakistan is facing various challenges which cause low productivity, post-harvest losses, high cost of doing business, shortage of gas and electricity and the reliance on old production methods. The food sector exports include rice, fish, fruits, vegetables, spices, animal feeds, seeds, molasses, tobacco, wheat etc.
