KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Labour and human resources, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Wednesday inaugurated the online registration portal for industrial workers by the employers respective under the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI). Speaking on the occasion, Nasir reiterated the Pakistan People’s Party and Sindh government policy towards the welfare and wellbeing of the industrial workers at grass root level. He said that Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had passed the directives to initiate a modern system of online registration of industrial workers to provide maximum facilities and incentives. Nasir apprised that at present more than 700,000 industrial workers are registered under the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution while the approximately 5 million remained unregistered. The minister said that Industrial cards would also be given to workers and process is in pipeline while many welfare measures worth of Rs 1 billion have been disbursed to the workers and their children in the month of May 2017. Nasir stated that Sindh would approach the Council of Common Interest and other legal forum to acquire its 60% amount of Rs160 Billion under Workers’ Welfare Board from the federal government. He said that the provincial government is taking measures to ensure provision of minimum wage of Rs 15,000 to every worker in Sindh. “No one would be allowed at any cost to pay less than minimum wage to any worker, if anybody does so, he will be dealt accordingly.
