KARACHI: Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has made a significant gas discovery at the exploratory well Aqeeq-l in Sujawal Block, located in district Sujawal, Sindh. “The well was spud-in on March 9, 2017 and drilled down to the depth of 2,320 meters to explore/test the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sands of Lower Goru Formation. Based on wireline logs and drilling results, testing was undertaken in Upper Sands which resulted in the discovery of gas and condensate”, revealed Company Secretary Assad Rabb. The well flowed 5 MMSCFD gas and 21 barrels per day condensate with WHFP of 586 Psi at 40/64 inch chock size. This gas discovery qualifies for the 2012 Petroleum Policy price, the company notified the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday. Rabb said the Aqeeq-l discovery further augments MPCL’s exploration success rate, which already ranks the highest in the Country. MPCL is the sole owner and operator of the Sujawal Block. MPCL presently operates three Development & Production Leases, eight Exploration Licenses and has joint venture interest share in five other Exploration Blocks. The company said that it will continue to boost its potential to find additional hydrocarbons in the country, so that the ever increasing energy requirements can be met through local resources.
